4 Mandatory Insurance Types

1. Health Insurance (건강보험)

  • Applies to all foreign workers residing over 6 months
  • Rate: approx. 3.595% (2026 increase) of salary, split between employer and employee
  • Benefits: outpatient, hospitalization, medication

2. National Pension (국민연금)

  • Applies to workers aged 18-59
  • Rate: 9.5% of salary (employer 4.75% (2026 increase) + employee 4.75% (2026 increase))
  • Important: You can get a refund when leaving Korea!

3. Employment Insurance (고용보험)

  • Rate: approx. 1.8% of total salary
  • Benefits: unemployment benefits, job training

4. Industrial Accident Insurance (산재보험)

  • 100% paid by employer - no employee contribution
  • Covers: workplace accidents, occupational diseases

Important Notes

  • Employers are legally required to provide insurance
  • If employer does not → report to Ministry of Labor (☎1350)
